Han Changfu: Appointed the Minister of Agriculture

 

The National People’s Congress of China took a vote on December 26, 2009 and decided to remove Sun Zhengcai from the Minister of Agriculture, which was taken by Han Changfu.

Han Changfu, 55, was born in Heilongjiang in October 1954. In January 1, he joined in the Communist Party of China. He spent a long time in working for the Chinese countryside and agricultural affairs. From 1980 to 1990, he worked in the Communist Youth League, serving as a member of the standing committee of the League and so on. Then he got in the Central Financial Leading Team Office, working as the deputy director of the Agricultural Team and then the deputy director of the Office. In 2001, Han Changfu was appointed the Vice Minister of Agriculture. Two years later, he was promoted to the standing deputy director of the State Council’s Research Office. With the goal of adding his working experience, the Chinese central government appointed him as the deputy secretary of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the CPC and the acting governor of this province. In January 2007, he was appointed the governor of Jilin.

Han Changfu was considered to be the expert in the affairs of countryside, agriculture and farmers. He always played an important role in the central government’s stipulating policies related to agriculture. His academic study also exerted great influence upon the theory fields and the related government departments.

When he was studying in Renmin University of China, he was majored in the agricultural economy. He had done research in the fields of land system, migrant workers and urbanization and made great achievements in these fields. He also published many books about China’s agricultural development.
