The need of fertilizers in China is huge in autumn, the harvest season. China’s government increased the export tariff of fertilizers, in order to meet the domestic demand.

On Aug. 30th, the Office of Customs Tariff Commission of State Council issued the notice on the adjustment of the special export tariff of the fertilizer products. Authorized by State Council, the special export tariff of the nitrogen fertilizer and the synthetic ammonia in China will be increased to 150% from Sep. 1st, 2008. And the policy will last till Dec. 31st, 2008.

The notice also pointed out that from Oct. 1st to Dec. 31st China would continue to collect 100% of special export tariff on the other fertilizer products and the raw materials except the two products mentioned above.

China has adjusted the export tariff of fertilizers for several times since the beginning of this year, aiming at suppressing the fast increase of the fertilizers export and meeting the demand of domestic market. Among the measures, people paid most of their attention to the one adopted in this April. The Office of Customs Tariff Commission of State Council made the decision that during the period from Apr. 20th to Sep. 30th, when the need of the fertilizers is huge, China will levy 100% of special export tariff on all the fertilizer products and parts of fertilizer raw materials exported to any trade form, any territory and any enterprise, on the basis of current export tariff ratio.

In addition, on Aug. 30th, the Office of Customs Tariff Commission of State Council issued the notice on the collection of temporary export tariff on animal and plant fertilizers, deciding to collect temporary export tariff on the animal or plant fertilizers (tariff code: 31010019 and 31010090) except guano from Sep. 1st to Dec. 31st, 2008. The ratio is 460 Yuan per ton (65.7 USD per ton).
